Systems Approach
A Systems Approach is a way to clarify a multi-faceted problem by examining it from all angles. This is our take on some of the issues we are addressing with the SoundMind Project:
Neurological Impairments
Problem : Disabilities and neurological impairments have significant stigma in the current system, this creates an attitude of despair and non-proactive approach among patients, families, and healthcare practitioners.
Current System : Neurological impairments are boring/depressing/untreatable. Might as well just give up.
Our vision : Healthcare practitioners and patients alike see neurological impairments and developmental disabilities as a perfect starting-point for exploration of the human condition, to reconnect with themselves, and to bring their own personal reality back to the current moment.
Integrative Medicine
Problem : There is an enormous amount of distrust among agents in medical encounters often exacerbated by miscommunications and misunderstandings revolving around integrative approaches to medical care; patients feel disconnected, doctors do not feel respected...
Current System : Many patients in our current system have discovered an inherent connection they feel to nature and plants; they often venture to their allopathic practitioners looking for guidance about botanical medicine, integrative approaches, and nutrition/vitamins. Unfortunately, a little known fact is that allopathic practitioners have little to NO training in these approaches. This breeds distrust, frustration, and an incredible amount of misunderstandings between both parties in the medical encounter.
Our vision : Patients and healthcare practitioners alike currently see the natural world as a perfect bridge with which to better understand the connection between their own personal health and the current medical system.
